WoW Classic Game Director Explains Why Classic Server Queues Are Still So Long

World of Warcraft Classic servers are now live, and as expected, players are crowding to get in. Unfortunately, servers are still pretty packed leading to long queues for some of the more popular servers. World of Warcraft director has now issued some clarification on Blizzard’s plans to alleviate the long queues in the near future. In a post on the Blizzard forums (via USG), WoW director Ion Hazzikostas was asked why Blizzard is hesitating on opening up new servers when queues to enter World of Warcraft classic can grow into the tens of thousands. The reason, Hazzikostas says, is because Blizzard is prioritizing the long-term health of World of Warcraft Classic over quick fixes.

WoW players are struggling with some kill-and-collect quests due to overcrowding, with dwarves, elves and orcs all fighting over the same monster loot drops to complete quests. But it's leading to some rather charming behavior from the WoW Classic community. Players are spontaneously forming in-game queues to ensure that each player gets a fair chance at taking on a rarely spawning monster. While Blizzard have the ability to add more servers, Hazzikostas highlights that they want to avoid a situation is which some servers end up with too few players to be sustainable, resulting in those servers needing to be shut down and players transferred to more populated servers down the line. “We are fairly sure — we can't know for sure without being fortune tellers, but most of them align — there will be a fairly steep drop off compared to that day one interest, and we want to make sure because of how important community is in Classic in particular, that we have healthy server populations.

Though lower queues don't seem imminent, at least the problem has been brought to Blizzard's attention. Hopefully more folks will be able to log in over the coming evenings and relive those blissful memories of slaying boars and getting in a different kind of queue.
